WEIGHTS AND MEASUREMENTS

069-PESAS Y MEDIDASThe Jewish who came back to a destroyed Jerusalem had to use many measuring instruments to the reconstruction: The first mention in the Bible about the measurement of things is the measurement of time on the six days of creation, in days of 24 hours, measured by the time of the Earth’s rotation, the evening and the morning1 and the weekly cycle when adding Saturday, the holy day, the seventh day of creation.2 The year and the seasons are other of the first measures God gives to men.3 God is the creator of the weights and measures of any king: length, height, width, area, volume, etc.4 On the Bible we are informed about some concepts, related to this, very advanced for its time, which were not studied nor understood until many centuries after. God gives weight to the wind and sets the measure of the waters.5 God makes the earth round and tells us.6 God knows how the human being is made, for he did and knows what instructions it has in his organism for his growth, the Genetic Code, for he set it there7 much earlier than men discovered it. God has counted all the hairs of our head much earlier than we learned to count.8 God knows how many days we are going to live and how delicate we are.9 But he is out of any measure and any time.10

As God is holy, fair and good, he wants us his sons to be like him11 and that our measures and weights are good and fair, not falsified12, for he detests falseness, injustice, dishonesty.13 He wants us to be generous when we measure the others, for he is like that.14 God goes even beyond of anything measurable, since when God looks us, “God does not view things the way men do. People look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart”.15 God wants our restoration in his image and likeness16, a measures altered by sin, but which he wants to restore, reconcile to his way of being.17 His willing is that we are converted, if we want to and we will by the action of the Spirit of God, when we look and contemplate at him.18 The measure, the aim, the objective he wants us to achieve is pointed from now on in his word: “until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God—a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature”.19
