Jacob, running away from his brother Esau, received a dream in a place where he stopped to sleep. He dreamed about angels of God ascending and descending a ladder1, which was supported at one end on the ground and the other end touching the sky. This dream was to show him the action of these supernatural servants of God, and that particular report, monitor and proclaim their message to humanity, but always conditioned to the ladder. This “ladder” a symbol used by God to teach a great spiritual truth. The apostle John records the words of Jesus to Nathanael, to show us that our Savior is the ladder that Jacob saw.2 His humanity reaches us, as the base resting on the earth, and his divinity is the apex reaching to the heavens.
This revealed to Nathanael the mentioned method of salvation. If any of us will finally be saved, it will be for having clung to Jesus as the rungs of a ladder. For the believer, Jesus is made wisdom and righteousness, sanctification and redemption. The “Son of Man” connects the human being with God; He is the only pontiff. The fulfillment of the covenant was to be manifested through a “mediator” between God and men, Jesus Christ man3 without ceasing to be God. The Savior reestablished communication with heaven, so “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation”.4 That is, the mediatorial work of Christ redeems man in his imperfection from the same garden of Eden.
