THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

The Second Coming of Christ is the foundation of all the teachings of the Bible. It is the climax of Gospel good news because it is the reason why we are waiting for the Creator and Saviour. Perhaps, it is possible that this important issue has not been named as many times as death, resurrection and Jesus ascension. However, we can assure that this is only half the teaching of the gospel. The entire message, the climax of the gospel is complemented in his second coming, a fact which keeps the hope of millions of people who have lived throughout the ages. We found it in the Old Testament,¹ but we can better understand this great event of the Second Coming with the entire book.

Jesus spoke a lot about his return² and this precious promise is constantly confirmed in the New Testament. A good example of this is found in the book of Acts, where the disciples are encouraged by angels to go forward while their Master was ascending to heaven. In the same way he left us he will come back again.³ Although Jesus did not give us the exact date of his return,⁴ he left us signs clearly pointing to this great event, so we are invited to be prepared for that moment.⁵ Jesus will return for the second time to save the people who expects him.⁶

Therefore it is important to know that the coming of Jesus as it is described in the Bible will be literal, personal and visible by all human beings around the world who be alive at that moment.⁷ “Because the Lord will descend from heaven with a loud command, and the dead will rise first. Then the live ones, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air so as we will ever be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words”.⁸ Although almost every writer of the New Testament mention it, Paul is one of the writers who speaks more about the blessed hope that means the return of Christ to their children.⁹ All the angels of heaven will come with Christ, so that his coming will be glorious.¹⁰ Jesus will reward them according to their work.¹¹
